With record breaking heat and the recent WA State Drought Emergency Declaration, the District would like to request customers to conserve water as much as possible so the District can continue to meet demands and provide reliable water service. Electrical outages and extreme heat on our electrical equipment (particularly our well motors) are affecting our operations. With multiple days/weeks of abnormally high temperatures coupled with unusually warm overnight temperatures our equipment does not have the opportunity to cool.
- One recommendation is to water after 6:00 p.m. and before 8:00 a.m. Watering during the day in these high temps can lead to scorching of the plants – not to mention more than 50% of the water you are laying down will almost immediately evaporate!
- A second recommendation is an odd/even watering schedule based upon your address. Odd numbered addresses water on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday while even numbered addresses water on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
Reducing irrigation is the most effective way to keep peak demand lower and keeps rates as low as possible while meeting the needs of our customers. Thank you for helping us moderate demands on our equipment so we can continue to provide reliable water service.
