Hazardous wastes should not be flushed down the toilet. The District’s treatment plant is a biological process and does not remove some hazardous chemicals. Many chemicals found in hazardous products are toxic. When these products are thrown into the garbage, on the ground, or down storm drains they persist in our environment. This can pollute our air and water and pose a threat to human health and wildlife.

Because of the harm hazardous chemicals can cause when improperly disposed of, Spokane County has developed programs for the safe disposal of hazardous wastes. The Spokane Regional Solid Waste System provides clean and convenient, one-stop drops for recyclables, household hazardous waste, yard waste, and trash.
